We’re Hiring – Insurance Account Handler

As a small successful family run insurance broker based in Bude, Cornwall, we are seeking to hire a customer account handler to join our growing team. Our brokerage provides a variety of general insurance services including products for business, hospitality, motor, household, personal, and travel insurance.

The candidate must have at least 2 years insurance experience, ideally working in both commercial and personal lines insurance. On-going training will be provided, along with optional CII exam progression. A good background education is required.

The role will require advising new customers on a range of general insurance products (hospitality, guest houses and similar is a niche area we provide), searching & placing quotations with suitable insurers, handling all customer queries including mid-term changes, claims, and managing renewals.

You will be dealing with customers face to face, via telephone, post and email. Generating new customer leads and cross-selling, collecting payments and handling direct debits, chasing outstanding documentation, payments and similar and keeping records up to date.

General day to day office operating duties would be expected i.e. some cleaning, going to the post office, locking doors at the end of the day etc.

Desired characteristics include 2+ years knowledge of the commercial and personal insurance industry (ideally within a broker environment), an ability to work under pressure by yourself and part of a team, enthusiastic and hard working, good communication and negotiating skills, being able to work under own initiative, good computer literacy (with experience using the Open GI insurance computer software an advantage but no essential), well presented, friendly, with the ability to get on well with others, ability to prioritise and organise workload efficiently.

The position would be office based in our high street branch in Bude, Cornwall with occasional customer site meetings so having a car and full UK license preferable.

Hours of working: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, plus Saturday mornings (every other week) 9am-12pm.

Holidays: 22 days, plus all bank/public holidays (usually 8), annual leave, so 30 days annual leave.

An extra 1 day holiday for every 2 years of service, up to 5 bonus days available.

Salary: Dependent on experience.
